Beginner-Whitewater Crash Course
Whether you’re looking to try your hand at a new sport or simply looking for an excuse to escape the city for a day, this is the course for you.
This action packed day is designed to give you a taste of the thrill that can be had flying down a whitewater river and provide some insight into the lifestyle that goes along with this sport.
Students will meet at the river at 10 am. Before getting on the water to learn the basics of flatwater, students will spend the morning learning the ins and outs of the equipment. A basic hydrology lesson will take place over lunch followed by an introduction to moving water in the afternoon. Students will finish the day running their first rapid!
This course will run with a maximum of 4 and a minimum of 3 students.
Duration: 8 hours
Location: Determined based on water levels (the location usually between 1 to 1.5 hours from Winnipeg)
Age/Physical Requirements: Must be at least 16 years old. Must be able to do moderate physical activity for an extended period of time.
What to bring:
Appropriate change of clothing for weather conditions
Clothing that can be worn in water (swimsuit, rashguard, baselayers etc.) (NO COTTON)
Closed toed footwear that can be worn in the water (NO CROCS)
Lunch and snacks
*A kayak, paddle, PFD, sprayskirt and helmet will be provided.
Return and Refund Policy
A refund minus a 10 % service fee will be issued for cancellations. There will be no refund for cancellations less than two weeks before the course date.
Prairie Whitewater reserves the right to reschedule a course if bad weather is expected or if minimum sign-up is not reached.
