Intro to River Running/Creeking (2 days)

Intro to River Running/Creeking (2 days)

SKU: 6

Are you ready to take your paddling to the next level?  Are you ready to push yourself out of your comfort zone physically and mentally?

River Running/Creeking is a whole new dimension of whitewater kayaking.  It is about starting in one location and ending in another with excitement, adventure and some unknowns in between. There is no feeling like it!

This two-day course will teach you the basics of this more complex type of paddling.

Students will spend the first day fine tuning their paddling skills at Old Pinawa Dam. From eddy turns to ferries to boof strokes, students will perform a variety of drills increasing in complexity. Students will dial in these harder moves on relatively easy and safe whitewater in preparation for day two.

Day two will take place a week later, allowing students to process all that they learned and to prepare themselves for the a river running mission. Day two will be spent on the infamous Bird River. Students will get a taste of all that goes into a real paddling mission. Students will begin the day by setting up a shuttle before hiking to the river. Students will then spend the day moving down stream - scouting rapids, setting safety, running a number of rapids and of course, portaging a few too. The instructor will facilitate the day in a way that will encourage students to work together in order to confidently reach the takeout safely.

This course will run with a maximum of 4 students and a minimum of 3.
